We Are Only Getting Four Episodes Of ‘Invincible’ Season 2 Before An Indefinite Break

Well, we had some good news this past week with a new Invincible trailer that showed off an expansive new voice cast and after 2.5 years, a November 3 release date.

But it’s a bit of a Monkey Paw situation, it turns out. While Invincible will indeed premiere on November 3, it will only be airing its first four episodes for four weeks after that date. The last four are said to be out some time in 2024, though there is no specific release date for those yet.

Amazon has not commented on why exactly this is happening. With 2.5 years between seasons it would be a bit odd if season 2 still wasn’t finished. But if it wasn’t, they would essentially have to wait until the entire Writers/Actors strike is over, as work is not supposed to be happening on unfinished projects, which is why so many are being halted indefinitely. And if this too is an indefinite hiatus with Amazon not explaining why, then that could indeed be the reason.

Still, it’s going to be annoying to only have four episodes to watch before another big break. This is sort of the Netflix school of big releases now, where they split up shows like You or The Witcher or The Lincoln Lawyer into two half-seasons. But then they return a month or so later. This move is merely to extend conversation about the series, but that doesn’t seem like what’s happening with Invincible.

First, this is not a binge release in the first place. Second, if they were spreading it out on purpose if the entire thing was finished, they wouldn’t be giving us some nebulous date in 2024. If the show returned on January 1, 2024, that would still effectively be two months after release. But if there’s not even a date or a month given, I would expect it to be quite a bit longer.

I would argue that if fans have waited 2.5 years, I’d delay the series so it airs all at once that just doing four episodes at stopping for who knows how long. But now that they have a release date, they probably won’t be doing that.

There’s also the addition of an Atom Eve-specific episode airing on July 1 that focuses on her character specifically. So yeah, things are getting a bit strange with how Invincible season 2 is getting released after all this time.

I have no doubt it will be a good season, as the source material is solid and the cast is great, but this weird, blocky release is not going to feel great, and if it is indeed strike-related, just delay the whole thing.
