From ‘Spider-Man 2’ To ‘Super Mario Bros Wonder’ What An Incredible Weekend For Video Games

If the above image looks busy, it’s because I’m trying to illustrate just how crowded this month has been with new video game releases. And I didn’t even include big hitters like Assassin’s Creed Mirage!

One of the games in the above image came out last week, but the rest are all new, either releasing this weekend or over the past few days. Let’s go down the list, shall we? Each of these games is out now, so you can go play them to your heart’s content.

1. Lords Of The Fallen (PC, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PS5, PS4)

I’ve played a few hours of Lords Of The Fallen and will have a full impressions/review piece up in the not-too-distant future. So far, I genuinely like it a lot. It feels like Dark Souls 2.5 and is a total ripoff of FromSoftware’s games right down to sound effects and menus. But it does it well! And the twin-realities opens up some really neat level design and exploration. It’s not as good as Dark Souls, but it scratches that itch better than most “Soulslike” games, and really feels like old school Souls before that series changed quite drastically for Dark Souls 3 and then Elden Ring.

2. Wizard With A Gun (PC, Xbox Series X, PS5, PS4)

A 1 or 2-player Wild West with Magic survival game from Devolver Digital. I love the art-style. This game just oozes character. It’s rocking a Very Positive on Steam as well, with gamers singing its praises, though some find the gameplay loop a bit repetitive. I’ll take it for a swing and see what’s what.

3. Endless Dungeon (PC, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PS5, PS4)

The highly-anticipated Endless Dungeon is currently Mostly Positive on Steam, with some gamers complaining that it’s too easy, others unhappy with Denuvo anti-piracy software and various other complaints. Still, the sci-fi multiplayer game has lots of fun to offer especially if you have some friends to team up with. It’s a Rogue-lite tactical action game set on an abandoned space station set in the same universe as Dungeon of the Endless.

4. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 (PS5)

One of the biggest video games in a year chock full of massive AAA releases, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 promises a whole lot more of what made the first game so brilliant. This one is worth the price of entry just for the amazing web-slinging. Traversing NYC via web is super fun. Add in a great story and fantastic graphics and you’ve got a hit. (Though I do think all the open-world busy work is a bit much). My colleague Paul Tassi reviewed this one. Read his review here.

5. Super Mario Bros. Wonder (Nintendo Switch)

Super Mario Bros. Wonder brings the long-running Nintendo franchise and its titular plumber back to 2D side-scrolling and it’s awesome. The game is already one of the best-reviewed Mario games of all time, though the previous Nintendo Switch Mario outing, Super Mario Odyssey, reviewed a bit better. Still, this one should keep you entertained and delighted for many, many hours.

6. Peak.53

If you’re a fan of SOCOM, Peak.53 is for you. Third-person tactical PvP shooter that quite literally calls itself the spiritual successor to SOCOM 2 Navy Seals. It’s free-to-play in Early Access out now and looks pretty good, though definitely rough around the edges. I’ll be taking this for a spin soon.

What are you playing this weekend? Let me know on Twitter or Facebook.
