Genesis’ Remembers Sentient Robot Aurora In Its Second Episode, Watch It Here

The second episode of Genesis, the Overwatch anime miniseries, just dropped, and you can watch it below. The latest installment is called “Innocence” and we get to learn more about Aurora, the first omnic that became sentient in this world. The robot travels the planet to learn more about humanity and herself.

The episode then moves on to the dawn of a robot uprising that changed the world — it starts in part due to an artificial intelligence called Anubis taking over a factory to build war bots. We then get to see some of the origins of Overwatch, a strike team that formed to help humanity overcome the Omnic Crisis.

Like the first episode, there isn’t much new information here for those who are already deeply invested in Overwatch lore. Once again, it also leans a little too heavily on exposition, but there are only so many ways to cram this much story into a six-minute video.

As you might be able to tell from the YouTube thumbnail, there are a few more familiar faces in this episode but we don’t get to see the heroes from the game interact with each other too much here.

This series is beautifully animated so far and I’m enjoying it a lot. I love that we’re getting to see this story being told from a different perspective. Just because I love this artwork so much, here’s another gorgeous still that Blizzard sent me:

Lovely stuff.

Zooming out, this is one of the best times to be a fan of Overwatch lore that I can remember. Between weekly episodes of Genesis and Null Sector ships appearing in several in-game maps after the midseason patch went live this week, Blizzard is gearing up for August 10, when its Invasion season goes live.

Overwatch 2: Invasion (aka season 6) will introduce paid co-op story missions, a free co-op event mission, a new core PvP map type, a new support hero, an overhauled player progression system and, later in the season, single-player Hero Mastery training missions.

It promises to be a big season and one that we’re told will finally drive the narrative forward in the game. I’m looking forward to it, but in the meantime, we’ve got one more episode of Genesis to come next week.
