Overwatch 2’s Reworked Battle Pass Will Likely Let You Earn Older Mythic Skins

Overwatch 2’s Battle Pass system is getting an overhaul next year. The devs are “deep in the process of working though this,” Overwatch general manager Walter Kong said at BlizzCon. As such, the team isn’t ready to reveal all the details, since they’re still being determined.

However, Kong revealed that one thing Blizzard plans is to “offer players more agency when it comes to the Mythic skin reward.” This is the customizable skin that players earn for reaching level 80 of the Premium Battle Pass each season.

Team 4 is working on the ability to let players to “earn any single Mythic skin we’ve ever released when you play through the Premium Battle Pass,” Kong said.

That should come in handy for newcomers who missed out on the likes of Cyber Demon Genji or Amaterasu Kiriko, as well as those who weren’t able to finish the Battle Pass in a given season for whatever reason. Also, it means that players who don’t really use the hero who gets the Mythic treatment in a given season the chance to go back and earn a Mythic for a character that they care more about.

In addition, Kong said the team wants to make Overwatch 2 play more rewarding with “a total set of changes to the Battle Pass.” Expect more details about that next year.

I think the biggest thing Blizzard can do in that regard is to make it far easier for players to earn free Overwatch Coins that they can put toward unlocking another Battle Pass.

Although we’ll need to wait until 2024 to find out the details about the Battle Pass rework, Blizzard shared a ton of other juicy info about what’s ahead. We got an update on new Hero Mastery missions you’ll be able to try next month and word of a Hero Mastery co-op mode that’s coming next year.

We found out a ton about major, positive changes to the Competitive systems that are coming in Season 9 and beyond, and got an early look at gameplay for the next DPS hero, Venture.

Plus, Team 4 revealed how the next PvP game mode Clash works and provided a peek at the gorgeous Hanamura-adjacent map for it. I didn’t get around to covering Clash in its own post (I have written a lot of words today, y’all), but I like the sound of it so far.

Last but not least, there were some teases peppered throughout the presentation, including the news that a map set in Peru is on the way. And with that, my BlizzCon work is done, and I’m off to play more Mauga while I still can this weekend.
