truBody Delivers A Highly Customizable Body Contouring Experience

I love exploring aesthetic technologies that make me look and feel better—especially non-invasive ones. While I am very healthy and active, I am inching towards 50 and things just aren’t what they used to be, physically speaking. So, I regularly utilize various non-invasive technologies for both my face and body as part of my personal upkeep. With that said, my eyes are always open to what is available to keep me in top form as I age, especially with so many options available.

Non-invasive body contouring has become a very popular solution to make subtle, yet visible improvements to the body for individuals who prefer not to have surgery and meet the criteria for being a good candidate. The term itself refers to changing the circumference of a body part, firming muscles, reducing targeted areas of fat, and improving the appearance of cellulite. There is an array of technologies that fall under non-invasive body contouring devices including ones that utilize precise cold and hot temperatures, energy-based devices (for example, ultrasound, radiofrequency, magnetic frequencies), and even light-based devices.

But even devices with the same or similar technologies can differ greatly when it comes to the user experience and even results. About a year ago, I tried Emsculpt Neo, which is a combination of and radiofrequency and HIFEM energies to reduce fat while simultaneously building muscle. I found the treatment to be useful in addressing some of my concerns, but I am petite in stature, and I found the paddles that administer the treatment to be too large for certain body parts, like my inner thighs, for example. When I recently explored treatment options from other devices for my yearly “tune-up”, I came across Cutera’s truBody device that offered smaller applicators, so I wanted to see how different the treatment would be.

“truBody pairs two innovative technologies – truSculpt, which targets fat reduction using Monopolar RF technology, and truFlex, which focuses on muscle toning and strengthening using Multi-Directional Stimulation (MDS) technology. truSculpt iD was the first device to be launched and cleared by the FDA in 2018 for non-invasive lipolysis (fat breakdown), now known as truSculpt, followed by the truSculpt flex and flex+ (now truFlex) in 2019 for muscle stimulation,” Amogh Kothare, Vice President, Clinical and Regulatory Affairs at Cutera tells me. “Together, these two aesthetic devices are called truBody, the ultimate aesthetic duo with the ability to provide customized body sculpting results.”

One of the main differentiators is that the treatment only takes 15 minutes when most other devices require a half hour. You can also treat multiple body parts at the same time. “truBody also offers greater flexibility than other treatment options allowing patients complete customization depending on specific areas of concern and ultimate goals,” adds Kothare. “truSculpt features six handsfree handpieces and 2 handheld handpieces for both large and small areas of the body including abdomen and flanks, and truFlex offers up to 16 handpieces and three different treatment modes to simulate five intensified workouts for the abdomen, flanks, glutes and thighs.”

Kothare goes on to tell me that due to the handpiece design, this treatment is easy to customize, making it a great option for a variety of different body shapes and sizes, skin types, and fitness levels and it has been cleared by the FDA for safe use and it requires no downtime. “Results are visible in as little as one treatment session, and full results are typically seen after 12 weeks,” he tells me. “For optimal results, we recommend our new signature treatment, The Trim & Tone protocol, which consists of only one 15-minute truSculpt treatment and four-six 15-minute truFlex treatments. Based on your personalized goals, your provider may recommend continuing with additional sessions.”

About a month ago, I tried out the treatment at Madison Avenue Face & Body located in Miami. While I am still waiting for my full results to unfold (it takes a few weeks for dead fat cells to flush out of the body’s lymphatic system), I have to say that I preferred this treatment over some of the other technologies that I have tried over the years. The sessions are quicker than other manufacturers, and I really appreciate the smaller applicator size that worked better with my body size and targeting areas like the batwings and inner thighs.

Overall, I found that truBody is generally painless, but the truFlex portion of the treatment got a little intense—especially on my arms. But if it becomes too much, your practitioner can dial down the power. Since I have had similar treatments in the past, I have no doubt that I will see pleasing results in a few more weeks. But I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by the differences that Cutera’s platform offers when compared to other similar devices available.
